Southwest Valley Splendid options in the Southwest Valley
The southern part of Arizona’s Avenues beckons the traveler to enjoy a variety of amenities. Here are brief descriptions of the Southwest Valley communities. Litchfield ParkVoted number 8 by Phoenix Magazine in the 2007 “10 Best Places to Live in Arizona,” issue, the City of Litchfield Park is a beautiful city of approximately 4,500 residents located a short 15 miles west of Phoenix. This community, with its towering palm trees and bountiful orange trees lining every street, was founded in 1917 and became an incorporated municipality in August of 1987. Featuring a quaint downtown business district and Starwood Luxury Collection’s Four-Star Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa, this “oasis in the desert” is a favorite destination for many in the West Valley. Opened to the public in 1929, The Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa has earned numerous four and five star awards. The recently redesigned Blue and Gold Golf Courses, along with the Red Golf Course, make the Wigwam’s 54 holes of golf a true golfing destination. While visiting or staying at this authentic Arizona resort, you will want to take advantage of the new Red Door Spa and the newly remodeled AAA Four-Diamond Arizona Kitchen Restaurant. Old Litchfield Road, adjacent to the Wigwam Resort, was once the town’s main street and maintained its original soda-fountain and drug store until the late 1990s, long after the super-center invasion. Today, that commercial stretch boasts a fabulous mom-and-pop collection including a coffee and sandwich shop, a wine bar, a gourmet pizza parlor and a Mexican restaurant, all of which feature fun and delicious dining inside or on their outside patios. If you enjoy art and craft festivals, outdoor concerts and indoor jazz, you have another reason to spend time in this beautiful city. Litchfield Park is quickly becoming known for its celebration of the arts. The City’s award-winning Fine Art and Culinary Festival, and seven award-winning Arts in the Park outdoor concerts, along with the annual Library Arts and Crafts show and the West Valley Arts Council’s Native American festival, truly makes Litchfield Park a destination place for art and music lovers alike. Your historic Litchfield Park experience will be one to remember. Visit www.Litchfield-park.org for more info! TollesonTolleson, a self-contained community 10 miles west of downtown Phoenix, is near Cricket Pavilion, an outdoor musical amphitheater with seating for 20,000 that hosts theatrical presentations and some of rock’s biggest names. It’s a city that has retained its foundation of a family-oriented, friendly, small town while creating a regional employment base that enriches life regionally. W.G. Tolleson of South Carolina founded the town in 1912. Today, Tolleson measures about six square miles and was incorporated in 1929. Once dependent on agriculture, Tolleson today has a strong commercial and industrial base. The City of Tolleson has become a strong distribution hub for companies wishing to deliver products to southwestern markets. This is primarily due to its excellent location just south of Interstate 10 and the interchange with Loop 101. The city of Tolleson hosts many large employers, including Sunland Beef, Kroger’s, Albertson’s, Salt River Project, and Sysco Food Systems. In addition to distribution and food, fiber and natural products, the community has a strong manufacturing structure. Visit www.tollesonaz.org for more info!
